Aston Villa and Chelsea will compete for the inaugural CBF Al Wahda Cup at Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi. CBF UAE will host a prestigious match at Al Wahda FC to conclude the mid-season training camps for Premier League players.
Both have won the highest honors in club football. Chelsea, six-time English champions, has twice won the Champions League, and in February lifted the FIFA Club World Cup with victory over Palmeiras at Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium, 2-1.
They are now under Graham Potter’s management and will be returning to Abu Dhabi looking for another trophy. Aston Villa were crowned English champions seven more times, and won the FA Cup the same number of times. In 1982, Aston Villa beat Bayern Munich to win their European Cup. This was thanks to Peter Withe’s goal. Villa won their two first games under Unai Emery, to climb to 12th place in the Premier League table. The competition was halted for the World Cup.
