The exhibition ‘Building with Earth’ offers visitors the opportunity to learn more about traditional architectural techniques as well as methods of earthen architecture all around the globe.
The exhibition will highlight the history of Abu Dhabi’s earthen building and the restoration projects Al Jahili Fort underwent previously. This culminated in Al Jahili Fort receiving the TERRA Award in 2016 for the ‘Best Earthen Architecture category’.
Al Jahili Fort is one of the largest forts within the United Arab Emirates. It was constructed by Sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa The First (r.1855-1909) in the late 19th Century as both a symbol and a summer residence. The original fort was a rectangular fortified enclosure with a distinctive four-storey circular tower.
