Qasr Al Muwaiji is a historic building located at the western approach to Al Ain city. It was built in the time of Sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan (r. 1855–1909) and his son, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan. The Qasr represents a fine example of early 20th century
mudbrick architecture and has played an important role in the history of the United Arab Emirates.
The Qasr Al Muwaiji was once the home of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE. In 1946, he became the Ruler's Representative in the Al Ain Region and made the Qasr his home and administrative base. His eldest son, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, was born there two years later and spent much of his youth at the Qasr.
